Account recovery agency test sheet: eight checks before paying

A buyer's test sheet for people locked out of their own account. Platform pages were read on November 5, 2026 unless dated otherwise.

An account recovery agency is an outside business that helps an owner use a platform's official recovery route. The label proves little: Google says it works with no such service. Before paying, test the scope, the payment terms and what the seller asks you to hand over. Nobody outside can override the platform.

What is an account recovery agency, and what does the label prove?

An account recovery agency is a business outside the platform that helps an owner use official recovery and appeal routes. The work is usually case review, sorted evidence and drafted wording. The word agency only describes how a seller presents itself: anyone working alone can use the name social media account recovery agency as easily as a staffed firm can.

Platforms do not lend the label any weight. Google's recovery tips page states: "We don't work with any service that claims to provide account or password support." On August 21, 2023, Rest of World reported Meta's position that recovery happens only through the platform's help option, and that no external service is authorized by Instagram.

So "authorized" on a sales page is the first claim to doubt.

Account Recovery Service is one of those outside sellers: an independent case-review service for accounts people can show are their own, which means this sheet applies to it as well. An account recovery services overview can map the market; this note only gives you tests. The platform's own tools stay free, and no outside party can override a platform decision.

The test sheet: eight checks with a pass and a fail

How do I verify a recovery service is real before paying? Run the eight rows below, then look for complaints using contact details you found yourself. A fail on login details or the access claim ends the conversation.

Wording is this note's, drawn from the sources below.
CheckPassFail
First contactYou found the seller yourself and opened the conversation.A comment or message arrived after you posted about the lockout.
Login detailsIt asks for the notice and what access you still hold.It asks for a password, 2FA code, backup code or session cookie.
Access claimIt names official routes and says the platform decides. It claims an inside contact or a way to hack the account back.
Free routeIt tells you when the free tool is enough. It hides free tools or tells you to avoid platform support.
PromisesIt commits to its own work and its own dates. It promises a restored account or a platform answer by a set time.
Written termsRoute, your part, price and refund term in writing before you pay.A vague package, a fee before anyone reads the case or no refund term.
PaymentOne agreed fee, by a method with some dispute protection.Crypto or gift cards only, or new fees after the first payment.
Other productsIt recovers your own account and refuses other people's.It also sells followers, aged accounts or takeovers.

The rows come mostly from the Better Business Bureau alert on recovery sellers.

Hold Account Recovery Service to the sheet as well. Search any seller's name with the words complaint, scam and review, as the FTC advised on August 3, 2026. Passing all eight does not make a seller good at the work.

What can professional recovery services do that I cannot do myself?

Very little that requires access, because a professional holds no tool the owner lacks. Professional account recovery comes down to route selection, evidence, wording and persistence.

That is the honest scope of professional account recovery help. A professional account recovery service sells judgment and organization, and professional account recovery solutions that promise more are promising something the platform alone controls.

Account Recovery Service works in that scope: it picks the route and prepares the evidence and wording, the person files and the platform makes the final decision. If a reset email reaches you or an in-app flow is open, you do not need paid help at all.

Recovery limits and service boundaries: what should a seller refuse?

A seller worth considering states recovery limits and service boundaries before taking money.

The first limit is ownership. A hacked account recovery service can prepare your filing for your own account, but a hacked account restoration service cannot restore anything by itself, because the restoration is the platform's act. For Instagram hacked and 2FA lockout cases, the route depends on what you still control.

Identity checks are the second limit. Platforms run them directly: Instagram may ask for a video selfie, which it says is deleted within 30 days, and LinkedIn uses Persona, its identity verification provider, for ID checks. An identity verification recovery service cannot pass that check for you, and it should never hold your ID. If a route needs a document, you hand it to the platform.

What this service declines

  • Access to someone else's account, including a partner, an ex, an employee or a competitor.
  • Account takeover, password cracking and session or code interception.
  • Buying, selling or transferring accounts against platform terms.
  • Ban evasion, getting past a verification step or any case needing your password or a code.

What does professional account-recovery escalation really mean?

Professional account-recovery escalation means moving a case to the next official step, never to a private contact. Ask any seller using the word three things: escalate to what, on which form and filed by whom. A real answer names a route you could open yourself.

  • Meta: Meta Verified lists agent chat or email on its Standard plan at $14.99 a month. The page says that support may not reach all subscribers at this time, and it promises no reinstatement.
  • Google: the recovery tips page says: "you can't call Google for help to sign into your account."
  • EU decisions: Appeals Centre Europe hears disputes over enforcement decisions from the last six months on platforms including Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. Users pay no fee at present, and its decisions are non-binding.

Rest of World could not confirm that sellers charging around 7,000 reais (about $1,455 in 2023) had the Meta contacts they claimed. Meta also told The Wall Street Journal in 2022 that paying for an account recovery service violates its terms, as SecurityInfoWatch reported on November 18, 2022. That covers paid recovery generally, this service included.

When is an upfront payment a red flag?

Upfront payment alone does not prove a scam, but paired with any warning below it is serious. A fee requested before anyone has read the case is the plainest fail of all. Someone searching recovery service wants an upfront payment before recovering my account, red flag, should check for these:

  • A guarantee of the outcome.
  • Crypto or gift cards as the only way to pay.
  • No written scope and no refund term.
  • Fees that grow after the first payment.

A page selling a paid service has an interest here, so here is the strict view. The BBB's alert is titled around never paying to recover an account, since every major platform offers a free route and only the platform can restore access. The FTC says never to pay up front for help getting a refund, advice written about lost money and not about accounts. The BBB adds advice for anyone who hires outside help anyway: get the price, scope and refund policy in writing, and prefer a credit card.

What transparent account recovery pricing looks like

Transparent account recovery pricing states the work covered, the total, what triggers an extra charge and what happens if the platform says no. Dated seller prices for one Instagram account show how far professional account-recovery fees spread. Account Recovery Service publishes no price list and quotes after case review. Ask any seller, this one included, when payment falls due and what the refund term is before you agree.

Guaranteed, fast and five-star: what do sales claims prove?

Almost nothing about your account. A guaranteed unban service is promising a decision that belongs to the platform, and the BBB lists guaranteed results among its warning signs. A money-back offer only covers the money.

A fast account recovery service can commit to fast drafting, while the platform's review queue stays outside anyone's control.

Unban service reviews are weak evidence for a sharper reason: they are cheap to fake. FTC rule 16 CFR 465.2 makes it unlawful for a business to write, sell or buy fake reviews and testimonials, which does not make them absent. That's Nonsense reported on April 24, 2024 that scammers scan posts for words like "hacked" and reply as satisfied past customers. The social media recovery specialists praised there may be the people writing the replies.

Discount any praise that names no notice type, route or date. This site shows no testimonials, so it offers no such evidence either way.

The mixed label

A digital growth & recovery agency is a label worth asking about, because it joins two different businesses. Does that seller also sell followers, bought engagement or accounts? A social media recovery service that also trades accounts profits from breaking platform rules.

How much should multi-platform coverage prove?

Only as much as the seller can name. A multi-platform account recovery service should give the exact route for your platform without looking it up, and a page of logos is no substitute. Ask how a Facebook lockout differs by failure type and whether a TikTok ban appeal follows the same logic.

A tumblr account recovery service should know that Tumblr's password reset page points people to its Account Recovery form once the reset email fails to arrive on a verified address. A wechat account recovery service should know WeChat's account recovery page, which starts from "Unable to Log In?" on the login screen and falls back to feedback through the Help Center. Both are free, so read them before paying anyone.

Business account recovery services add one more check, which is proof of your role. Account Recovery Service asks for it too.

FAQ: what do readers ask about this topic?

How can a buyer tell a recovery seller is genuine?

Start with how you met. A seller you found yourself passes the first test, and one who replied to your lockout post fails it. How do I verify a recovery service is real before paying? Search its name with complaint, scam and review, as the FTC suggests, and look for it on BBB.org using contact details you found on your own. Then ask four written questions: which official route, what you would do yourself, what it costs in total and what the refund term is. A real seller answers without asking for a password, a 2FA code or a backup code, and it says when the free platform tool is enough. Passing shows honest behavior, while the platform still decides. An account recovery agency that resents these questions has given you the answer already.

Does a paid helper have anything the owner lacks?

Less than the marketing suggests. What can professional recovery services do that I cannot do myself? They hold no extra access, so the work is judgment: choosing the flow, listing the evidence that flow can use, drafting wording that answers the stated reason and tracking attempts. An account recovery expert can save time once the free tool has failed. An expert account recovery service adds nothing when a reset email still reaches you. Professional account recovery help makes sense for a business page with messy records or a repeat rejection, and professional account recovery solutions never include a private route inside the platform. Treat a professional account recovery service as a drafter, and weigh Meta's 2022 statement that paying for recovery breaks its terms. The platform's tools stay free, and the person normally files.

Recovery service wants an upfront payment before recovering my account, red flag?

Often, yes, and the context decides how serious it is. Upfront payment alone is not proof of a scam, because plenty of honest work is paid before it starts. It becomes a serious warning when it comes before anyone has read the case, or arrives with a guarantee, crypto or gift-card-only payment, no written scope, no refund term or fees that grow afterward. The BBB goes further: its alert says not to pay anyone to recover an account, since every major platform has a free route. It also says to get the price, scope and refund policy in writing and to prefer a credit card. Account Recovery Service quotes after case review. Whoever you consider, get the payment date and the refund term in writing, and ask what happens if the platform says no.

Can a guaranteed unban service or a fast account recovery service deliver what it claims?

A guaranteed unban service cannot, because nobody outside the platform can guarantee the decision. The BBB counts such promises among its warning signs. What such a seller can honestly offer is a refund condition, which protects your money and has no effect on the account. A fast account recovery service can reply and draft quickly, but it cannot set the platform's review time, and Google adds that changed recovery details can take up to 7 days to apply. Ask what it will deliver and by which exact date. A seller that gives dates for its own work and none for the platform is being accurate. A seller that names an hour for your reinstatement is promising something it does not control, while the platform's own tools stay free to use.

Are unban service reviews worth trusting?

Treat them as leads, never as proof. Unban service reviews are easy to manufacture, and the FTC rule at 16 CFR 465.2 exists because businesses have written, bought and sold fake ones. That's Nonsense described in April 2024 how scammers reply to lockout posts while posing as customers who got their accounts back. Social media recovery specialists recommended that way may be recommending themselves. Better signals are complaints that describe payments and terms you can read before paying. A digital growth & recovery agency needs one extra question: does it also sell followers, engagement or accounts? A social media recovery service with that side business has a conflict worth noticing. This site publishes no testimonials, so it asks to be judged on what it states and what it declines, and every other seller deserves that test.

What does a multi-platform account recovery service need to show?

Route knowledge for each platform it lists. A multi-platform account recovery service should name the form or in-app flow for your case without generalities, and a social media account recovery agency that cannot is showing you its limits. A tumblr account recovery service should know the Account Recovery form linked from Tumblr's password reset help page. A wechat account recovery service should know the "Unable to Log In?" path and the Help Center fallback on WeChat's safety page. Neither is a platform this site normally handles, so go to those official pages first. Business account recovery services should also ask for proof of your role before touching a page or ad account. An account recovery services overview can tell you the categories, but only specific route answers tell you about this seller.

What does escalation mean, and what are the limits of outside help?

Escalation means the next official step. Professional account-recovery escalation might be a second appeal where one is offered, agent chat through Meta Verified, whose page says that support may not reach all subscribers, or a dispute to Appeals Centre Europe over a recent enforcement decision on a platform it covers, whose decisions are non-binding. It does not mean a friend at the platform. Recovery limits and service boundaries follow from that. An outside helper cannot overturn a decision, restore a deleted account the platform says is gone or file a verification check in your place. Ask a seller what it will refuse. Professional account-recovery fees should be tied to work you can name, such as a drafted appeal, and transparent account recovery pricing states what happens if the platform says no.

How does Account Recovery Service handle hacked accounts and identity checks?

It treats both as your filing with your platform. For a hacked case, Account Recovery Service reads the security emails and the notice, checks what you still control and picks the official route. A hacked account recovery service or hacked account restoration service claiming to take the account back directly is describing something the platform alone can do. Identity checks stay between you and the platform. Instagram may ask for a video selfie, and LinkedIn runs ID checks through Persona. An identity verification recovery service should not collect your passport, so this service does not ask for ID in the first message and tells you to give any required document to the platform directly. It never asks for a password or a code, and it declines other people's accounts. Message us on Telegram for a review.
