Proof that needs a device still logged in

Old tablets and laptops matter here. Recent emails shows Instagram's messages from the last 14 days, and Where you're logged in lists recent devices. Once back, save fresh codes and keep two-factor on. BleepingComputer reported on June 8, 2026 that Meta counted 20,225 Instagram accounts hijacked through a flaw in an AI-assisted recovery tool, and that accounts without two-factor could be entered after a reset. Meta disabled that tool.

What does Instagram want when a security check locks you out?

It wants proof that a real person and the owner stand behind the login: a video selfie or an ID upload.

Instagram's selfie page gives its reason: photos and IDs can be digitally modified, while a head turned in different directions shows a real person. The same page sets out four consequences. While the video is under review, you have no access. If it passes, you may get an email at your secure address with a link to reset the password. If it fails, resubmitting in the Instagram app may be open to you. If you decline, logging back in may stay closed.
